A-line skirt:

The perfect cut for everyone!  This skirt is so versatile, make it longer or shorter, in cotton, wool, twill, rayon ... the possiblities are endless.  In this class we will work on understanding a commercial pattern including laying out the pattern pieces, altering the pattern to fit our body type, piecing the garment, making darts, installing an invisible zipper, hemming and attaching a waistband.

Amy Butler's Barcelona Skirt

This is a cute A-Line skirt made by layering the fabric and leaving the edges raw so that it has a frayed look after washing.  Very cute and practicle for the summer!  We will be inserting a lining, invisible zipper and hemming.  Pattern includes a Apron Overlay which can be made to 'jazz up' your new skirt.

Basic Shower Curtain             

Most people think curtains are hard because of all the measuring. Take this class and conquer that fear. We will talk about measurements, buying the right amount of fabric and different type of tabs. We’ll be making a standard size shower curtain, but you’ll also leave with the tools you’ll need to furnish all the windows in your house.

Backpack:

Elephant, Chicken or Owl?  It's your choice during this fun class!  Your little one will look forward to heading back to school or the library or... ?  with this backpack on.  This is a fun project that requires few sewing skills - so it's perfect for the beginner sewista.  

Difficulty level: Beginner

Basic T-Shirt:

Learn to make your own knit t-shirt using the serge or over-lock stitch on your conventional machine.  If your machine doesn't have these stiches plan on using one of ours.  Long sleeve, short sleeve, v-neck or turtleneck, you can never have enough t-shirts.

Body Double:

A Body Double is a mold of your own body (kind of like a mannequin) made with a t-shirt, packing tape, stuffing and you!  If you are looking to improve your sewing, nothing beats having a body double right there to get the best fit.  This is a Sewtropolis service.  Plan on spending 2-3 hours being taped and leave with your Body Double.

Apron:

Love to spend time in the kitchen, why not spice up your kitchen attire with this little number. This apron can be made to look retro or very modern – you decide. If you choose to make your own bias binding be sure to sign up early in order to have your binding ready before class.

Bias Skirt                                            

This skirt is flattering for everybody, choose a stripe fabric and use optical illusion to your advantage. We will learn about cutting on the bias, and understanding a commercial pattern. Once you get the hang of this skirt you’ll be making more in no time.

Crib Sheets                                          

Baby crib sheets, while a nursery necessity can be expensive and you can never get away with just having one or two crib sheets. Babies often soak through their diapers, so it's important to have plenty of extra crib sheets on hand. Join Terry as she walks you through the (baby) steps of sewing your own crib sheets!

Crib Skirt                                           

A crib skirt hides the mattress supports in a baby's bed and adds a finishing touch to the nursery. You can easily sew a crib skirt in just the color and style you want, perhaps to match the new crib sheets you learned how to make? Let Terry show you how to make a custom made crib skirt to match your little ones nursery.

Pajama Pants:

If you think pants are too hard? Think again!  Pajama bottoms are the perfect start to understanding how to sew pants.  We will take measurements, apply those measurements to a commercial pattern, altering the pant pattern and fitting.  At the end of the class you will have a comfy and cozy pair of pajama bottoms with a good understanding of how to start on a pair of pants.

Scrappy String Quilt:

Have so many leftovers you don't know what to do with them all?  Try this stash busting Scrappy String Quilt and discover for yourself what all the buzz is about.  Basic rotary cutting will make a fabric prep a snap.  Students will complete a 20" x 44" table runner in this class.  Students who wish to make a larger quilt will have the option of making exgtra blocks as homework.  Please note, this is a two session class.

Sewing Essentials:

If you've never used a sewing machine or if you simply need a refresher, this class will build your sewing confidence.  This class introduces you to the anatomy of the sewing machine and how to get started including bobbin winding, threading, stitch slelection and sewing seams.  Put your knowledge into practice with a simple pillowcase.

 Tote Bag:

Also known as the Farmer's market bag.  Lot's of people have been asking for the larger bag so for the summer take the Tote Bag class and learn how to make this larger size tote.  Pattern comes in three different sizes - you decide which size will work best for you.  Be the envy at your local farmer's market! We will practice topstitching, lining and pocket making.

Yoga Bag:

Tired of having the same yoga bag as everyone else!  Make your own; we will work on sewing on a curve, pockets, attaching straps, lining and more.

Zip, Button, Snap:

Just like lion, tigers and bears: zippers, buttons and snaps can be scary.  Arm yourself with the right tools and prepare to conquer these tricky beasts.  We'll learn about the different types of zippers, button-holes and snaps and along the way we'll make at least three of these handy pouches which could then be used as makeup bags, wallets, pencil holders, cell phone holders, notions bag, coupon tote....
